The town of Bethel, Connecticut, held the annual John DeMille Firecracker 8K on July 4th. It was my first time running this race, and it was a great experience.
Bib pickup was that morning at the Municipal Center, and it was a super easy process. In addition to a shirt, we also received a bag of goodies. There was a pack of earbuds, a stress ball, lip balm, pen, and even a flower token from Ben’s Bells.
The race started and finished by the Municipal Center. We went through the town of Bethel in the residential areas, and even down Greenwood Avenue, the central hub of the town.
There were more hills than I thought there would be, which wasn’t too enjoyable in the heat. Luckily, there were tons of water stops, and even people hosing us off outside of their homes.
There was a great spread of fruit and bagels at the end.
There were a lot of people dressed very festive for the Fourth of July, which just made the race more fun. There were also tons of people outside to cheer us on. Overall, a really lovely experience, and a really great holiday race.
