One of the best things about Walt Disney World are the resorts the property has to offer. Each with different themes and price points, they have something for everybody.
One of my favorite resorts is Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. It’s a deluxe resort, but not the most expensive one Disney has to offer. Like all Disney resorts, your price per night depends on the size of your room and the view it has to offer. One of the biggest draws of Animal Kingdom Lodge is the savannah view option for your room. That’s right, you can wake up and right outside your bedroom window you can be greeted by a zebra, giraffe, or other animal.
What’s also great about this hotel is even if you choose a standard view, you have ample opportunities to see the animals, and it then becomes the cheapest room of all of the deluxe resorts, to my knowledge.
When you first walk into the hotel, they really go out of your way to make you feel like you’re home. They are so many details that go into the entire hotel, and that’s evident from when you first see the lobby. Disney really tries to give you an authentic experience of stepping into an African savannah.
It’s truly one of the most beautiful resorts on the Disney property. There are tiny details everywhere if you pay attention.
Also visible from the lobby is the bridge that connects one side of the hotel rooms to the other. Even if your room isn’t located there, it’s still fun to walk across.
Directly underneath the bridge is another seating area next to a fire.
When you get to your room, every aspect of it is on point with the theme.
The bathroom is a great size. Even the wallpaper in the bathroom is intricate and hides some Disney surprises.
The room also comes with a balcony. There are two seats, and a small table.
If you look closely at your curtains, you’ll find some familiar faces.
Opposite the entrance to the lobby is a giant glass wall and doors leading you outside.
Outside you’ll find a giant fire with seating that’s usually the place to be at night.
Following the various paths, guests will have the opportunity to come face to face with the animals. You can see the rooms that provide the savannah views, but you will now have the chance to see those same animals.
Depending on which area you visit, guests can see giraffes, warthogs, zebras, and other various animals.
You’re able to get surprisingly close to the animals, and there is such variety of animals on the property. This hotel is truly an experience in itself.
The animals are enough of a draw for me, but this resort also offers a quick service food spot, The Mara, a sit down restaurant at Jiko, as well as a buffet at Boma.
Of course, like any other resort there is a pool. The walk to the pool is a beautiful experience. The foliage and flowers everywhere are unlike any you normally encounter.
Like any Walt Disney World resort, AKL has its own set of buses to take you to and from the parks (sorry, it was nighttime when I took those photos).
Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of my favorite Disney resorts. The themes are not overly kid-oriented, making this place perfect for adults. However, for those kid-at-hearts, it’s fun to find the subtle references to our favorite Disney movies, whether it be in the curtains or even light fixtures.
(I Can’t Wait To Be King…anyone?)
The numerous animals onsite make this a wondrous experience for kids and families, making the savannah your backyard for the length if your vacation.
Overall, this place goes to show the lengths Disney will go to create a fully subversive experience for their guests, leaving them with memories to last a lifetime.
