Puff Pastry Hearts

I had leftover puff pastry in my freezer, and was looking to do something with it. Little did I know that this SUPER easy treat would become an absolute favorite with my kids.

I’ve called recipes easy in the past, but these required almost no effort and takes less than 15 minutes in the oven. They are visually beautiful and would make a cute addition to any Valentine’s Day festivities.

I was inspired by the instructions from Pillsbury for their Sweetheart Palmiers.

What you’ll need:

  • Puff Pastry Sheets (thawed)
  • Red Sanding Sugar
  • 1 egg

What to do:

If your puff pastry was in the freezer, make sure it is completely thawed in your refrigerator.

Lay the puff pastry down and roll out a bit.

Beat an egg and brush it onto your puff pastry sheet.

Sprinkle the red sugar evenly over the puff pastry. I would say I used about 1/8 cup.

Using the shorter sides, roll each side in towards the middle, leaving about 1/2 inch between the rolls.

Then fold the puff pastry onto itself, so the rolls touch and wrap in plastic wrap. Place into the fridge about 30 minutes.

Remove from the fridge and unfold, but do not unroll. Cut slices of the dough at roughly 1/2 to 3/4 inch in thickness.

Lay the slices flat on parchment paper and pinch the bottom a little to form the bottom point of a heart.

Place into the oven for 12-15 minutes.

Remove from the baking tray and place onto a wire rack to cool off.
